...

itu tahun lalu.

homunculus

so i choose the absolute. and what is the absolute? it is i myself in my external validity. anything else of myself i never can choose as the absolute, what if i choose something else, i choose it as a finite thing and so do not choose it absolutely, but what, then is this self of mine? is it freedom?

consciousness of freedom consists in the fact that the individual comprehends himself as a person that he sees himself in his distinct existence as inherently universal, as capable of abstraction form and renunciation of everything particular, and therefore as inherently infinite.

tunggu, hingga waktuku datang padamu

Tanah airku tidak kulupakan
Kan terkenang selama hidupku
Biarpun saya pergi jauh
Tidak kan hilang dari kalbu
Tanahku yang kucintai
Engkau kuhargai

Walaupun banyak negri kujalani
Yang masyur permai dikata orang
Tetapi kampung dan rumahku
Di sanalah kurasa senang
Tanahku tak kulupakan
Engkau kubanggakan

A man is intrigued and challenged by a woman who is an interesting person in her own right, whose personality has enough depth to provide that essential ingredient for any successful relationship between men and women
--the masculine need for meaningful conquest.

a note

as for me, i have not been the unfortunate messenger of a thought stronger than i, nor its plaything, nor its victim, because that thought, if it has conquered me, has only conquered through me, and in the end has always been equal to me.

i have loved it and i have loved only it, and everything that happened i wanted to happen, and having had regard only for it, wherever it was or wherever i might have been, in absence, in sorrow, in the inevitability of dead things, in the necessity of living things, in the fatigue of work in the faces born of curiosity, in my false words, in my deceitful vows, in silence and in the night, i gave it all my strength and it gave me all its strength, so that this strength is too great, it is incapable of being ruined by anything, and condemns us, perhaps, to immeasurable unhappiness, but if that is so, i take this unhappiness on my self and i am immeasurably glad of it and to that thought i say eternally, "Come," and eternally it is there: "..."

which memory for which identity?

The sick of longing for being at “home”—homesickness, isn’t necessarily about home and neither is it exactly an illness, instead, it stems from our natural need of love, protection and security—a feelings and qualities usually associated with home, not literally just missing your house, but missing what’s normal, what is routine, the larger sense of social space, because those are the things that help us survive.

The common perception of home is where we belong, territorially, existentially and culturally, where our own community is, where our family and loved one reside, where we can identify our roots, and where we long to return to when we are elsewhere in the world.
In this sense, belonging is a notion filled with romantic images; it is a foundational. In the sense that it circumscribes feelings of “home ness” (as well as homesickness), it is also a significant determinant of identity, that elusive but still real psycho sociological state of being in relate with oneself under given external conditions. Most importantly, “home” and “belonging” are affectively a defined concept, the indicative “home is where we belong” really means, “home is where we feel we belong.”

People may find themselves living and breathing in their own home, their privileged community space, with people of “their own kind”, in more or less pronounced “ethnic purity”. But they may also find themselves elsewhere; in which case be-longing more often than not turns into a question of longing-to-be at home.

This fact of being on somewhere else far away from Nusantara, spending the most precious time of re-humanizing my self through the so-called “holiday” in this Baltic sea’s town side, reminds me to some partial scenes of mental condition from my rooted community that has produced images and memories, which often quite out of touch with contemporary realities of those authentic roots.

How could be a place you have never physically been to, but when you get there you just know this is where you belong? It is a place that your heart and your blood feel connected to.

I began to realize that people, despite of their nationalities, also may feel they have several belongings, several places and cultures they belong to and that determine their identity as multiple, nested, situational or fluid. The features of a culture that produce this sense of closeness and well-being are within its folkways, its sounds and smells of traffic congestions, its consumerism behavior and worship towards automobiles, its viciousness into space occupations, its corner of the town hall’s square, the innumerable subtle and ways of life we grow up with—it makes the cultural belonging is very important, perhaps because it is basically so very simple: we feel we belong to our culture, because it constitutes a home of natural embeddedness and unthinking attachment, “familiarity”—familiar surroundings, close knit localities, or the intimacy of personal relationships.

a runner up and i'll run away.

i'll leave.
i'm observing.

'another' being

i like it here being alone, but i never be all "alone". there is a space of the unseen encounter, the unheard communication trying to make a connection in the physical body.
so i never be really "alone".

i believe that everyone is aware of their five basic senses-seeing, feeling, smelling, hearing and tasting. what everyone is not so well aware of is their "other" sense, that sense of otherworldliness, a relation to something more and greater than their physical senses are able to perceive. and i do believe that the universe is full of this unlimited energy that can be tapped by almost anyone who are willing to make the effort to focus and tune themselves to its subtle vibrations-- but i never wanted to. i never wanted to focus on the vibe nor had hallucinated my self. "it" just appears. showing themselves in front of me. and i get used of "their" existence.

my first experience when i was 3 years old, i kept bugging my mother about what i've seen on top of the wardrobe when no one seen it. it became a never ending sophistication through my entire life.
i don't care if anybody won't believe it,

but!
i am not insane. i can truly distinguish between what is real and what is "unreal" in the real world. and i wasn't trying to exaggerate the impact of their invasion to my body. so please understand, why'd sometimes i cry in the middle of the night, had this terrible emotional attack of something eerie, and sometimes i'd prefer to turn the light on when i go to bed just to refuse seeing them on the dark.

i'm out.

kamu memberdayakan dirimu, melalui pikiran, lalu tindakan.

jadi maaf-maaf saja kalau ternyata pilihan saya mengecewakan.

berjuang sendirian. tumbuh sendirian.

Muttering pluralism

prompted by the so-called cultural talk on the seminar held by Bauhaus International students assembly that mainly focused on how students are facing some difficulties adjusting to a new culture that differs from their own, i was more rather concerned when one of the students, a Rusia girl, spilled out in regards with religious influencing cultural behavior in moslem society in a fundamentalist way. a few hours after the talk, the mediator of the seminar approached me and started to comment on some examples of attempts in pluralizing the view about religions in Indonesia, which of course is interesting in itself. any discussion about pluralism is always refreshing. apart from her point of view of how the other minority religion deal with the pluralization indonesia, thing that has been crossing my mind is that the discourse about religion somehow is always dichotomized between two polar, fundamentalist and liberalism, forgetting that between two spectrums there lays a space of in-between-ness where most of society stand. supposedly the liberalism has a totally different view than fundamentalist in interpreting religious messages, by holding on values of pluralism, there could always be space for exchanging ideas and appropriate critiques.

however, both should not be trapped in competing for the "right-ness" by negating each other. pluralism is not about "accuracy" but rather implies the "open-ness". other important thing is that the existence of in-between-ness which now somehow is forgotten and ignored. how could be any pluralism in the public sphere if there are only two dominant views and the rest are muted? supposedly the liberalists (well, easier for me to demand liberalists rather than fundamentalists... some of you know why) believe in the importance of pluralism, they should also encourage any different views about religion to grow and at the end this attempt should be more important than promoting any exclusive view of liberalism. but can one liberalist actually do that? this is not impossible, and one should keep this in mind if want to hold on to pluralism.

but it isn't easy as well living in pluralist society, remember the MUI (Majelis Ulama Indonesia) has sentenced pluralism as "haram" stipulated in the National discussion board in 2005 (CMIIW)? . such a controversial issue among religious figures, humanity activists and intellectual scholars, questioning the definition of "pluralism" that has been perceived by MUI. many of indonesian moslem society believe that "pluralism" is a heresy; pluralism has been socially constructed through the religious agents. moreover, to clarify the position of their fatwa, the MUI and the interpreter da'wah (religious teacher), as reported by some media, reaffirming that they receive a plurality because it is an inevitable reality yet firmly reject pluralism. because pluralism presupposes a belief that all religions are equal and authentic. some of the moslem society might have this perspective of pluralism, this makes me conclude that pluralism in Indonesia, such as twilight. the luminescence is fading away before it could really shine and glow. it's one thing that disturb me. not to mention other crucial matters; the conditions of the majority community of Indonesia who live in the shadow of non-literary culture, a culture where people not only are illiterate (can not read), but also not literate in accessing information about the different worlds outside themselves.

based on the phenomenon above, i suspect that the image of pluralism that has been dull because its meaning superficially crushed by 'some quarters' must be re-sharpened. term of pluralism must be acknowledged with different packaging. is in the industrial era, as now, packaging is the main capital to sell an idea or ideas? for example, the interpreter dai celebrities who often appears on the screen. all have their own packaging. in the meantime, the pluralism which has been packed as a presumption of relativism, a perspective that the value and truth is determined by the view of life and mind of every individual or community, in which all things (the views, values, beliefs, truth, meaning) contain relative truth. so the question is true / false, good / bad, halal / haram and so is relative. this view of relativism (that all religions are true and the same) is already undertaken as pluralism. isn't it a fallacy?

in the discourse on this matter is actually implied a concern that the history of mankind is always colored by the efforts of get rid of "the Other" under "the Same", who has the right to life is "the Same", while "the Other" and its disorder must be eradicated, muzzled, converted, and eventually become "the Same". for that, I think, borrowing Kang Jalal's testimony in his latest book, Islam and Pluralism, he said, "all religion is true according to each criterion. each one is valid within its particular culture." all God's creatures is a large families.
